Mary-Ann Snell - Born in Barrie, Ontario Mary Ann experienced the nomadic lifestyle of an air-force family; however, for the past 20 years she has lived in the Walnut Grove area of Langley. Her first loves were horses and drawing, but constantly moving schools did not favour artistic pursuits, as academic subjects were always the focus.
The ‘aha moment’ came to Mary Ann in grade 7 upon seeing a Van Gogh exhibit in Winnipeg. She was so mesmerized, especially by his use of colour, that painting would always be part of her life. Mary Ann graduated from the University of Alberta as an Occupational Therapist to start a career that combined her creative and artistic sides with her strengths in the Sciences. The majority of her career involved working in pediatrics; she frequently incorporated her love of art into her therapy programs.
Throughout her long career, Mary Ann squeezed in her love of horses and art. Art exploration included painting with watercolours, drawing, quilting, sewing, pottery, and more. Recently retired Mary Ann now devotes much of her time to watercolours and photography and is involved in an on-going mentorship with Olwyn Geeling the Maple Ridge watercolours and oils artist.
With dedication to her painting, a definite style is emerging with a flair for colour and texture using nature as her inspiration.
