As someone who was strongly attracted to the visual arts, as well as a collector of art, in 1999 Robin finally found the courage and made the time for herself to paint. Since then, in self-directed and mentored studies, painting has become her passion—“a joyful problem-solving journey”. In 2005, she was encouraged to continue painting when her first entry into a juried show won first prize.
Robin is devoted to her media of choice-oil paint, and explores its possibilities on canvas or panel using brush, palette knife, and often her fingers. Her palette varies, but she frequently returns to earth hues. Subjects include faces, fur, feathers, fabrics, and flora; many of her works are now in local and international collections.
Robin was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, but moved to a horse farm in Aldergrove, British Columbia when she was eight years old. Her love of science led her to a long rewarding career working in the field of clinical microbiology. Her laboratory work honed her skills of observation and the ability to discern subtleties of colour; both skills have also proved very useful for an artist.
After travelling the world and all the provinces of Canada, in 1995 Robin traded her city life to live once again on a farm in the beautiful Fraser Valley. She is devoted to her husband, son, and a big loveable dog (see Axel's portrait below) , as well as, gardening and community work.
